Willmott is President and CEO of WR Thoroughbreds, Inc, a company that buys, sells, breeds and races thoroughbred horses. Breeding operations are located in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. WR Thoroughbreds, founded in 1997, also buys yearlings and two-year-olds privately and at auction.
When yearlings begin training, they typically leave New York and move to schooling facilities in Ocala, Florida. From there, as two- and three-year-olds, they are sent to leading trainers in Florida, Kentucky, New York and Massachusetts.
Tom also was a joint owner of Waterfalls Stable. Waterfalls raised and raced Percy Hope, winner of the 2001 Lone Star Derby in Dallas, Texas. Percy Hope competed and placed seventh in the Preakness that same year. Tom has bred or raced other notable horses, including Buxton Field, Hostile Witness, Hatton Cross, King County, Rhubarb Red, Ragtime Hope and more recently West College and Berkshire Hills. After her racing career, Ragtime Hope was bred to Eddington and produced Secret Circle, winner of the 2013 Breeders Cup Sprint.
